This is a systemic problem throughout the city. Gas stations all over town are closing shop, leaving their buried hazardous waste (underground tanks), and walking away, leaving a fenced-off wasteland of blight in the neighborhood indefinitely. The city should use anti-blight ordinances to force property owners to remediate these sites, or at least provide a temporary use (other than parking lots) that would serve the neighborhood and prevent the accumulation of trash and graffiti until a more permanent use is identified.
