  would love a better Oakland for my children (Registered User)

  My boyfriend was hit in this intersection 3 years ago. A lady from SF ran the stop sign making a right turn and never looked left. As he came up 19th Ave she blew the stop sign on East 24th and smacked him throwing him from his motorcycle 35 feet through the air. He tore multiple tendons and had to have surgery to repair and to this day is affected. The police pushed his motorcycle which was totalled into the red zone stating they'd have it towed as I went to the hospital with him. They left it for over a month come to find out and let it accumulate over $3k in parking tickets. The cop stated he'd have it towed as it was spewing gas so I was unconcerned with leaving it and going to highland hospital. We were home the next few months rehabbing and taking him to and from Drs appointents, surgery, recovery, rehab with a physical therapist, his lawyer, etc. I never even drove back that way for a while and when we did a month later and saw the bike still there and no tickets were visable meaning they wrote them and someone removed them. We got a letter showing the city wrote him a ticket daily for almost 2 months instead of towing the totaled bike. They continue to come after him for those tickets even though the cop left the bike he pushed into the red zone there purposely. The city is all about making money not actually doing anything that remedies an issue or takes money from their already fat pockets. I've almost been t boned at the same intersection because folks speed down that entire block (east 24th) even with speed bumps and shoot across the intersection. I usually already have my foot on my brake and ride towards the yellow dividing line just Incase hoping I'll have time to stop or swerve to lessen the blow. Just keep your fingers crossed no one is killed here.
